SLCP is launching CAF v2.0 at the end of 2026. This is the next generation of the Converged Assessment Framework (CAF), continuing to provide credible and actionable data while introducing significant improvements to user-friendliness and efficiency for all stakeholders involved in the SLCP assessment process.
CAF v2.0 is built on the same foundation as the current CAF: one shared tool for social and labor data collection, verified by an independent Verifier Body, and shareable with multiple stakeholders via the SLCP Gateway. The new version introduces improvements across three key areas, which are outlined below.
We will share more detailed information, guidance, and resources as we get closer to the launch date. This article will be updated as new resources become available.
What is changing in CAF v2.0?
A more accessible tool for facilities and Verifiers
Facilities completing their self-assessment in CAF v2.0 will benefit from a simpler experience:
- The shorter question set shows facilities only the questions relevant to their specific self-assessment, while ensuring the final SLCP report retains all the detail required by brands.
- Grouped questions and conditional follow-ups reduce duplication, making the assessment process faster and easier to complete.
Verifiers will also benefit from a more efficient verification process:
- A targeted, risk-based approach allows Verifiers to focus on the areas of greatest risk and relevance.
- Improved question structures, answer options, and guidance allow more time for validating conditions on the ground.
Credible and actionable data
CAF v2.0 introduces several improvements to data quality and credibility:
- Step 1 of the assessment is aligned with the Better Work Foundational Data Set. This captures the minimum data set required to determine compliance with international labor standards, national labor laws, and due diligence requirements.
- New data quality features support more accurate and complete data collection, including mandatory attachments and explanations, question-level Verifier instructions, and a new QA Reviewer profile to ensure quality review and accountability.
More information on these features will be provided closer to the launch date.
A strong foundation for Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD)
CAF v2.0 introduces several features that strengthen its role as a foundation for Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD):
- Semi-announced verifications will be the standard for CAF v2.0, in line with HRDD best practice.
- Worker engagement is now mandatory in the self-assessment. A Worker Engagement Protocol will be available to provide guidance on how facilities can implement this requirement.
- Facilities can upload worker surveys and evidence of additional due diligence activities alongside their SLCP assessments, giving stakeholders a broader picture of facility conditions
- Remediation data can be uploaded by facilities between SLCP assessments. This will help provide evidence of remediation activities for specific legal non-compliances, giving stakeholders quicker visibility into improvements made between assessment cycles
CAF v2.0 preview documents
The following preview documents are currently available to help stakeholders prepare for CAF v2.0 launch later this year:
- CAF v2.0 Question List [pre-launch version] — A full view of every question and every data element in CAF v2.0 to help you prepare and update your systems
- CAF v2.0 Question Change Guide [pre-launch version] — a comparison of CAF v2.0 with CAF v1.7 highlighting which questions have been changed, added, and removed
Keep in mind: These documents are complete, but as testing continues they may see minor changes before CAF v2.0 launches. We'll provide a change log at launch so you can compare the pre-launch and launch versions.
