The Data Collection Tool is updated every one to two years to ensure it stays relevant and meets the needs of SLCP’s stakeholders. At the same time, SLCP strives for stability in the Data Collection Tool so that data can be easily compared over time and to minimize implementation costs.
Updates may include changes such as:
- Re-ordering of questions (between Steps)
- Adding data points or (follow up) questions
- Removing data points or (follow up) questions
- New functionality like automation to better ensure data quality
- Adding or changing entries in drop down and option lists
This list isn’t exhaustive. Also, from time-to-time SLCP may need to make other changes to the Tool and will do so in consultation with signatories and stakeholders.
Some brands map the Data Collection Tool to their own Codes of Conduct to analyze or score the SLCP verified data. Some changes to the Tool can impact this mapping. SLCP usually shares the content of a new release six months before launch to give brands time to update their mapping. Major updates (1.x) are for content changes that impact mapping. Minor updates (1.x.y) occur between major updates and are for content changes that don’t impact mapping of SLCP data points to codes of conduct or other standards.
SLCP continually reviews feedback on the CAF and feeds this into future updates. We have a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) made up of signatory representatives that leads on planning changes to the CAF. Members of this CAF TAC, along with Accredited Hosts (AHs) and other stakeholders are closely involved with the planning of Tool changes from an early stage. Changes to Step 1 of the Data Collection Tool are made in collaboration with Better Work.
Note: Facilities do not need to wait for an update of the Data Collection Tool to start or finish an SLCP assessment. SLCP encourages brands to accept SLCP assessments that were verified within the last 12 months, no matter which Tool version was used. Facilities that have already started an assessment using the previous Tool version will have three months to complete it after the introduction of the new version.
