How can SLCP support human rights due diligence implementation?
SLCP’s Converged Assessment Framework (CAF) is a broad social assessment that can act as a first step for companies when undertaking human rights due diligence (HRDD). By asking questions on a wide range of social & labor compliance topics, it comprehensively covers many human rights risks that companies need to address in their supply chain. SLCP has mapped the CAF against the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Core Labor Standards to understand how it can be valuable for capturing indicators of possible violations of severe human rights*. Where there are known risks, further in-depth and targeted tools can be used complementarily.
In the 6-step OECD due diligence framework, the CAF is particularly useful for Step 2 (identifying risks) and Step 4 (monitoring and tracking progress on risk prevention and mitigation). Learn more about how the CAF can support stakeholders to implement HRDD and how SLCP data is aligned with emerging policy demands in the SLCP Human Rights Due Diligence Toolkit 2.0.
Through SLCP's collaboration with ILO Better Work, the CAF is mapped against International Labor Standards and National Labor Laws. This means that the data collected is highly relevant to any emerging policy which aligns with the existing international standards.
Finally, SLCP prioritizes data quality to ensure the collected data accurately represents the working conditions in the facility. With facility ownership at the core of the data collection process, SLCP understands the immense demand for actionable and credible data particularly when it is used for HRDD policy compliance. Is the CAF aligned with the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)?
SLCP has conducted comprehensive tool alignment activities to ensure that the CAF is aligned with the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and, as such, can serve as one of a number of relevant tools useful for supporting its implementation by companies. Chapter 3 of the SLCP Human Rights Due Diligence Toolkit 2.0 offers a detailed overview of how an SLCP assessment aligns with the CSDDD.
On 26 February 2025, the European Commission published the Omnibus Simplification Package I - Simplifying EU rules and boosting competitiveness, aimed at making sustainability reporting more accessible and efficient and simplifying due diligence requirements to support responsible business practices, among other objectives. The text includes significant changes to key legislation on corporate sustainability, notably significant amendments to the CSDDD.
These proposed changes are not yet final, and SLCP is carefully monitoring the next steps of the European legislative process (see SLCP’s position paper on the Omnibus proposal). SLCP will continue the alignment of the CAF with the CSDDD, with a focus on further integrating well-established international HRDD frameworks, such as the OECD Guidelines and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).The CAF will continue to be mapped to ensure it reflects the expectations set out through mandatory legislation such as CSDDD. This will ensure its continued utility for brands and other stakeholders in implementing this Directive.
*Please contact the SLCP team for the full mapping with CAF v1.6. SLCP is currently undertaking the mapping with CAF v1.7.
